Style 101 Card
What to Wear
Every frequent flyer knows not to wear linen or silk. Other rules are a little less obvious.
1 Skirts ride up, and shorts look silly (no matter how balmy your destination). Slim-fitting jeans, black pants, or khakis with stretch fibers are comfortable and durable.
2 A light jacket pulls together an outfit and protects you from the air conditioner. But be sure to consider what's underneath. Jackets usually have to be removed at security checkpoints-an awkward proposition
if you only have a skimpy camisole under them.
3 You are not required to remove your shoes before going through a metal detector, according to the Transportation Security Administration. Our advice: To avoid delays, take them off. Slip-ons-we like ballet slippers and driving moccasins-are the wisest choice. Puma's Speed Cat sneakers are also popular among stylish travelers; they feel cushiony, but still have a delicate silhouette. Even in dainty flats, though, consider a thin pair of socks to protect you from the airport
