ost souvenirs, however kitschy, recall something at least vaguely pleasant-but not so the souvenirs of zits. Now Neutrogena and Aveeno are hoping to make them just a memory. Both have new skin-care solutions with salicylic acid, a common anti-acne ingredient that reduces inflammation and redness and, "because it penetrates into the pores, also
dissuades pimples in the making," says
dermatologist Leslie Baumann. Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Mark Fading Peel also uses enzymes to speed up cell turnover (and, consequently, fading time), while Aveeno Clear Complexion Correcting Treatment has soy extract, which Baumann says may help prevent brown spots from forming. They're most effective on fresh zits and their aftermath. True scars and pock marks will likely require "dermabrasion or a hyaluronic-acid soft-tissue filler," Baumann says.
