Not many galas offer a chance to ride on an elephant or fly like aerialist Dolly Jacobs, but Circus Sarasota's Big Top party offered all that and more the other night. Professional clowns and jugglers rubbed elbows with guests in splashy circus costumes, like Mary Ann and Robbie Robinson and Nikki and Jim Nilon.
Tables festooned with sparklers complemented the displays of circus memorabilia as guests enjoyed a silent auction, a dinner, a fab show and ringmaster Cliff Roles ("Talk of the Sun Coast" over 1220 AM) emceeing the live auction. Susanne Rodriguez was one of two winners for the fanciful flight. The other was Thomas McDonald, whose attempts at grace as he flew above the crowd drew enthusiastic support.
Thomas was also the high bidder for a week's stay anywhere in the world …
