Stormhoek, a relatively small South African wine brand, has bypassed well-known ranges such as Blossom Hill and Jacob's Creek to compete with the real big names - such as Microsoft, Google and Apple.
Earlier this year distributor Orbital Wines decided to market Stormhoek 'below the radar' - by stealth - by sending a bottle out to nearly 100 bloggers, or online diarists, across the world. The campaign was so successful that well-known blogger Robert Scoble, a Microsoft insider, last month proclaimed the brand 'Microsoft's real competition'.
