Your "Net Threat Rising" article in the September issue cites the results of your survey in which 20 percent of Mac owners reported detecting a virus in the past two years. Unless these viruses were Windows viruses, which have no effect on a Mac, this is an intriguing statistic, as there have been virtually no Mac viruses "in the wild" for several years. This doesn't mean the Mac is invulnerable to viruses (it isn't), or that we Mac users can be smug and complacent (we can't). However, it means that 20 percent of the users have attributed other problems to nonexistent viruses.
