"The Man Who Would Not Be King," (October 3 issue) was a wonderfully inspiring article. But you erred when you called Horatio Gates a "capable general." He was nothing of the kind. During one battle, he was found hiding out in his tent, and when he came under attack in South Carolina, he wheeled his horse around and galloped--nonstop--to Charlotte, North Carolina, 60 miles away.
