A theater major turned English teacher and administrator, whose love of performing and persuading has brought her success, has become director of the American Council on Education's Office of Women. It seems a good fit.
Dr. Donna Phillips, formerly associate director of the office under Dr. Claire Van Ummersen, was appointed director starting November 1, 2005.
Van Ummersen retains her title of VP and is now in charge of the Center for Leadership Development at ACE, which includes the Office for Women, the ACE Fellows program and a program for department chairs.
"I bring a different point of view," Phillips told WIHE. While Van Ummersen had instant credibility as former president of two universities (Cleveland State University and the University of New Hampshire), Phillips' expertise is in facilitating agreement and making change.
