The judge who has been nominated to replace Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor--now that Harriet Miers has withdrawn--is Judge Samuel A. Alito. Critics describe him as opposing Title IX and the Roe v. Wade decision that guarantees pregnant women the right to choose abortion.

"President Bush has caved to the demands of the far right and nominated Samuel Alito for a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court," wrote NARAL Pro-Choice America, the activist pro-choice group. NARAL expects him to try to overturn Roe v. Wade, making it harder for women to get abortions.
