The criminal investigation into Russia's largest carmaker, AvtoVAZ, has been closed, Russian media reported Tuesday.

"Five criminal investigations opened into AvtoVAZ, including probes into the nonpayment of taxes, are no longer being investigated," said an unidentified representative of the Samara region police, Interfax reported.

In December, Samara police opened a criminal investigation into unidentified AvtoVAZ employees over the alleged nonpayment of 230 million rubles ($8 million) in back taxes, Interfax reported last month.
