Hoping to curb problems resulting from students' "drunken behavior," the University of Massachusetts has hired private security guards for some residence halls.
According to an email sent to students from Michael Garrgano Jr., vice chancellor for student affairs and campus life, alcohol abuse on campus prompted the hiring of the unarmed security guards. "While the additional security will not impact daily life, the increased security measure will be focused on addressing the destruction of property in the residence halls resulting from drunken behavior," he wrote in the email.
