When acrobats are learning their stuff, they practice over a sturdy net, just in case. When they've got their tricks down well and really want to shine, they whisk the net away and show off their fearless perfection.

Growing up can feel like that. As long as you live in your parents' house, you've got a safety net. You know Mom and Dad are right down the hall if you need anything. But moving out and heading off to college is like leaving that net behind. Sure, you'll have a Resident Assistant down the hall and a roommate in the bottom bunk, but it's just not the same.

As a Christian, though, you're always working with a net: God's promise to provide for your needs. And that includes your college needs--physical, emotional and even financial. God won't necessarily drop $10,000 in your lap, but he will take care of you and help you. It's a promise you can count on, because you've tested it before in three specific phases of your life:

1) Before you were born. You've never been more helpless than you were before birth. But God had his eye on you even then. Psalm 139:13-16 puts it like this:

"Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb.... Body and soul, I am marvelously made! ... You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; you know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you...." (The Message).

Spend time thinking about the truths in the psalm. Stop and thank God for creating you and watching over you even before you were born.

2) As you grew up. Think ...
