Some of my favorite college memories didn't cost much. Take those late-night talks with friends. Almost every night after the library closed, we'd gather in the student union at Taylor University. There, we'd talk and laugh and pretend to study until early the next morning. For me, the only costs involved were the hours of sleep I lost and the few dollars I spent on the occasional latte or Diet Coke.
Other memories required more cash. For example, one January term, I went with some of these same friends on a study tour through the South. There, I visited some of the historical sites related to the Civil Rights movement--places I'd only read about in history books. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel and study with one of my favorite professors, and it was worth every scrimped-and-saved dollar.
All of these priceless experiences required careful money management, cooperation with my parents and a lot of faith. I worked several on-campus jobs, watched my pennies and applied for lots of scholarships. Moro and Dad worked hard to earn the money ...
