BALTIMORE RAVENS
OFFSEASON GAME PLAN: QB Kyle Boller looked more comfortable at the end of the season, but he still is raw. A veteran should be brought in to challenge him for the starting job. Will Demps likely won't be back, so the team will need to find a starter at safety, Also, backup CBs Deion Sanders and Dale Carter could retire or not be asked back. RBs Jamal Lewis and Chester Taylor are free agents. Lewis could be designated the franchise player then the team could seek a trade for him. If Taylor is re-signed, the offensive scheme will need an overhaul. FINAL GRADES: Offense: D+, The club never found its identity and was dreadful in the red zone. Defense: B-, The linemen couldn't rush the passer, and the secondary had communication problems--but the overall performance was solid. Special teams: C. P Dave Zastudil was excellent, and K Matt Stover was reliable. Coaching: D. Brian Billick lost focus and his team lacked discipline.--Mike Preston

CINCINNATI BENGALS
PLAYOFF PROGNOSIS: Issues on defense and a lack of playoff experience could be insurmountable. When the Bengals don't force fumbles and grab interceptions, they're in trouble. LBs Odell Thurman, Brian Simmons and Landon Johnson and LDE Justin Smith must do a better job of controlling gaps, fighting off blocks and tackling. The club's playoff formula: Build a lead, bleed the clock and hope the defense can hang on. FINAL GRADES: Offense: A-. QB Carson Palmer is the real deal. Defense: B. The unit was inconsistent. Special teams: C+. K Shayne Graham is accurate and P Kyle Larsen is improved, but the coverage units are shaky. Coaching: B+. Coach Marvin Lewis reached the playoffs in three seasons--a miracle.--Chick Ludwig
