Larry Allen
6-3, 325
34 years old
Dallas Cowboys
The Pro Bowl guard takes his offseason workout routine so seriously that it almost cost him his job. When Bill Parcells arrived three seasons ago, he implemented a rigorous offseason routine based on clean-and-jerks, designed to enhance power and explosiveness. But Allen built his career around the old-fashioned bench press; his max is 705 pounds (he can squat 850).The philosophies clashed, and Parcells considered trading Allen. Finally, a compromise: Allen could call the shots on his lifting if he adhered to the Cowboys' stringent running program.
"During the offseason, I lift four or five days a week for more than two hours," he says. "I am much stronger now than when I came into the league because I've learned so much about lifting."
