GERMAN CHEMICAL production will grow by 6% in 2005, the industry association VCI said in Frankfurt at its final press conference of the year.
Earlier, the association had predicted an upturn of 1.5%. VCI's new president, Bayer chairman Werner Wenning, said business was buoyed by strong demand from customers in manufacturing, especially in the third quarter, when output rose 6% year-on-year.
Chemical producers are reasonably confident that the strong business development will last at least into the first half of 2006. However, Wenning said annual production growth against 2005 should be slower, at around 2.5%. Sales are forecast to rise by around 3.5%.
