CELANESE HAS stopped talking to Tasnee Petrochemicals about their joint acetyls project in Saudi Arabia. The firms think it would be too difficult and expensive to proceed at the moment.

'Trying to get contractors to even bid on projects is a problem,' said Dave Weidman, president and chief executive of Celanese.
