We begin this issue and this year in the comfort of my bed. My once-yearly bout with the flu has returned. So, most of this month's stories were edited at home on my laptop, propped up by pillows and surrounded by my kitties--Pumpkin and Moo. It isn't the picture of the balanced and harmonious life I had hoped to project right now.

In fact, I expected to be the picture of health, because just as we began this issue, I headed off for a week-long vacation--a much-needed one. I could sense that my energy and creativity were waning. Throughout 2004 and 2005, I never went anywhere without my laptop: Every getaway seemed to have an impending deadline that followed.
