Bell v. Johnson, 404 F.3d 997 (6th Cir. 2005). A former state prisoner sued corrections officers, alleging that they had retaliated against him for filing a civil rights suit. The case was remanded by the appeals court. A jury verdict awarded the former prisoner $1,500 in compensatory damages but no punitive damages. The district court granted a new trial on damages and subsequently entered judgment on verdict against an officer for $6,000 in compensatory damages and $28,000 in punitive ...
