The plane had landed and those who had been passengers crowded the luggage carousel, which had not begun to move. There came the announcement that luggage would be delayed. No reason was given. After a time came further announcement of further delay.
"God willing, nothing's lost or damaged. If anything is lost or damaged, that could end the expedition."
The accent was American, which may be the reason Dawson did not at first realise he was the one being addressed. Then he saw there was only one other at this distance from the carousel.
