Curriculum disputes.(Letters)(Letter to the Editor)
SIR: Kevin Donnelly (Letters, October 2005) is concerned at four criticisms I made regarding his critique of contemporary Australian education, Why Our Schools are Failing. My article, "The Disputed Curriculum" (July-August 2005) was not, of course, intended as a book review. It was an update on the struggle over the curriculum which has been going on for some forty years. There is much in his book that I would heartily applaud, for instance his analysis of the gender, indigenous and multicultural "perspectives" in education. Indeed, I would probably endorse at least 85 per cent of what he writes: a pretty high acceptance rate! But let me address his four complaints:
