(From Bristol Evening Post)
Convention will not dissuade Hallen boss Gary Domone from taking a gamble on Ray Johnston in tomorrow's First Division summit meeting with Clyst Rovers at Moor House Lane.
Having established a reputation as one of the soundest goalkeepers in the Screwfix League, the former Bristol Rovers stopper this week joined Hallen - as a striker! And he made an immediate impact in his new role, scoring in a 2-0 midweek victory over Bitton that greatly enhanced the north Bristol club's promotion prospects.
Manager Domone was delighted with Johnston's contribution and is considering deploying him in attack once more when long-time leaders Clyst arrive in town.
He said: "Ray called me last week offering his services as a striker, knowing that I was short in that department.
"I knew him as a keeper, but he told me he played up front regularly for his Sunday side and I agreed to give him a chance. He's a confident lad and so I've signed him to play outfield for us."
Domone's attacking options have been further improved by the return of Anthony Beacham from neighbouring Bristol Manor Farm and he is expected to go straight into the side.
