PRAGUE, Jan 1 (CTK) - The Czech Republic has decided to deal with the future of the European constitution, the ratification of which PM Jiri Paroubek's (Social Democrats, CSSD) government made its priority, after the June general election only, Foreign Minister Cyril Svoboda has told CTK.
The European Union alone has taken time to consider the situation that has emerged after France and the Netherlands rejected the constitution in referendums in the spring of 2005.
No idea about what to do about the constitution has been offered by Austria that takes EU presidency from Britain this month.
"Let's wait what the reflexion period in the EU will bring," Svoboda said. He added that the ratification should continue, but not in the form of plebiscites.
"If the process of ratification continues in the form of referendum, then it is dead," he said.
The question is what the opposition Civic Democrats (ODS) would do about the constitution if they won the general election.
