PRAGUE, Jan 1 (CTK) - Leaders of all parties in parliament said that they consider President Vaclav Klaus's New Year's speech today to be balanced and they did not have any fundamental objections to it.
They praised that Klaus called on people to take part in the elections to be held this year and to be responsible for their own lives.
The Czechs will elect the Chamber of Deputies in June and local assemblies and one third of the Senate in the autumn.
Prime Minister Jiri Paroubek (senior government Social Democrats, CSSD), considered one of Klaus's biggest rivals on the domestic scene, said he does not consider Klaus's warning against rampant bureaucracy and the swelling number of laws to be a criticism of his government.
Paroubek said that the speech brought "nothing revolutionary" in the Questions of Vaclav Moravce discussion programme on the public Czech Television (CT) today.
He said he was pleased that Klaus mentioned EU membership as one of the guarantees of the country's stability, even though Klaus is "the greatest Eurosceptic in Europe."
