(From Czech News Agency)
PRAGUE, Jan 1 (CTK) - President Vaclav Klaus called on people in his New Year's Day speech today to take part in the general election in June because they will thus demonstrate their co- responsibility for the country's development.
He appealed to the politicians to conduct a fair, matter-of- fact and reasonable campaign.
Klaus criticised the excessive bureaucracy in the country and the too big a number of laws which, he said, narrow the scope for free behaviour and business activities of people.
He said the year 2005 was not particularly extraordinary and that he expects no turnabouts this year either.
Klaus stressed every individual's responsibility for his/her own life. He said that no one should passively wait for what the state will do for them.
The politicians themselves should not make impracticable promises and try to persuade people that they are capable of curing all ailments.
