President Lech Kaczynski has signed the so-called Baby Bonus Act prepared by the government. It stipulates that mothers of the newly born who come from poor families will get a ZL1000 one-off child bonus. The estimated cost of the act amounts to ZL260m. But there was also another bill passed by the Sejm last week which grants the bonus to all mothers, even those who are well-off. This may cost the budget an extra ZL400m.
