SEOUL, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - South Korea's exports of digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) equipment are expected to grow this year as many nations, including China, plan to launch the wireless broadcasting service, industry sources said Monday.
DMB is a homegrown technology that enables users to watch TV programs with high-fidelity audio and video even when they are in motion. In May and December last year, South Korea launched satellite and terrestrial DMB services, respectively, for the first time in the world.
According to the sources, China is expected to commercialize the DMB service in April, starting in Beijing, and expand it to other major cities later this year.
Solitech, a South Korean DMB-encoder developer, signed a contract last month with a Chinese company to supply its products, while C&S Technology is in negotiations with its Chinese counterparts to offer DMB-related equipment such as chips and handsets.
