NEW DELHI, Jan 2 Asia Pulse - State-run BSNL is set to invite bids by January 15 from equipment providers to add 60 million mobile lines, the largest ever tender in India's telecoms sector.

"We shall float the tender by January 15, 2006. Since the tender is so big, it has taken some time to finalise the details," BSNL CMD A K Sinha told reporters on Friday.

The tender for 60 million lines envisages investment of US$4.5 billion.

For 2006-07, the BSNL would lay 20 million lines across the country, of which 80 per cent would be mobile connections.
