SEOUL, Jan. 2 Asia Pulse - An academic panel investigating South Korean scientist Hwang Woo-suk's stem cell research plans to release its final report around Jan. 10, a source close to the panel said Sunday.
The source also said the nine-member Seoul National University panel is expected to start compiling the report on Monday.
The report will likely include the verification, or discrediting, of a 2004 paper in the journal Science in which Hwang claimed to have cloned a human embryo for the first time in the world.
Last August he added to his achievements by cloning the world's first dog, named Snuppy.
On Thursday, the panel said a set of patient-specific stem cells that Hwang claimed to have made in his much-heralded 2005 paper never existed.
The panel told a news conference it reached the conclusion after determining that the DNA of five stem cell samples, which Hwang said would prove his scientific feat, failed to match those of their donors.
