Universities may want to consider text messaging as a way to alert the campus community about crimes, suggests a company that piloted such a system with Dutch police.

In Tilburg, a city in the Netherlands, police used Emexus' text messaging system to send notes to citizen's cell phones, alerting them of crimes, missing children, and other dangers in their neighborhoods.
