Dec. 29--AUGUSTA -- Former Augusta mayor and businessman John Bridge is on tap to receive the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce's top award for lifetime achievement, chamber officials said.
"He is such a gentleman and talented leader. I've never heard him speak critically of anyone," said longtime friend Clifton Fletcher, who has served on a number of community boards with Bridge.
"He used to be mayor of Augusta and he picked up the capital leadership for the YMCA, not only picked it up but set the pace" with his family contributing more than $1 million toward construction of the new building.
