QUEBEC CITY -- A strong association exists between Helicobacter pylori and hyperemesis gravidarum, Deborah'S. Golberg, M.D., reported in a poster presentation at the annual meeting of the North American Primary Care Research Group.
It is thought that H. pylori infection in pregnancy affects the severity of nausea and vomiting by altering gastric motor and sensory functioning. No guidelines exist for treating infection with the gram-negative bacterium during pregnancy, however.
