Your June article "Rating the Diets: From Atkins to the Zone" perpetuates the common misconception that I recommend a rigid, 10 percent fat diet for everyone, including for weight loss. To affect the progression of heart disease or cancer, people need to make bigger changes than if they are trying to lose a few pounds.
As I have written in "Eat More, Weigh Less," "Of course, it's not all or nothing. You have a spectrum of choices in what you eat." If you indulge yourself one day, you can eat more healthfully the next. To the degree that you move in a healthful direction on the food spectrum, you are likely to feel better, lose weight, and gain health.
