BENTONVILLE, Arkansas -- Wal-Mart International on Tuesday announced the purchase of a 33.33 percent interest in Central American Retail Holding Co.

Wal-Mart acquired its interest in CARHCO from Royal Ahold NV. The purchase price was not disclosed.

CARHCO is Central America's largest retailer, with 363 supermarkets and stores in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. CARHCO sales during 2004 were approximately $2 billion.
