Follow the flashbulbs at the opening of the Harlem flagship for the culty skin-care line Carol's Daughter and you will find Jay-Z, Beyonce, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tommy Mottola, his wife, the Latin singing sensation Thalia, and an all-but-unknown former TV production coordinator named Lisa Price.
Price is the creator of this collection of earthy, all-natural products aimed at smoothing skin, conditioning hair, and basically just smelling good. The line was born twelve years ago when Price was lured to the Brooklyn kitchen of her mother-the Carol in question, a fabulous cook. But instead of whipping up the Caribbean-inflected family favorites her mother was known for, Price started experimenting with recipes of her own: There was Jamaican Punch Sea Salt Body Scrub, a milky Rose Petal Pedicure Soak, and chamomile-and-marigold Tui Hair Oil.
