I am writing this to you as both the newest and most recently returning member of the MTNA staff, as well as your colleague. For more than 25 years I have been part of the piano teaching community and part of MTNA--first as a student member and then as a local association member and officer, industry member and then as a staff member. I continue today to own a teaching business--offering group music classes to 6-month-olds through late-intermediate group piano students. I also serve as the vice-president of the Southwest Ohio District in Cincinnati. My days are filled with joys of teaching, performing, administrating and loving my work! And, none of it would exist today without the influential and educational power MTNA has brought to my career. MTNA has played a significant roll in my professional career and since 1 was a student; it was just understood that to be in this profession--for real--I had to be an MTNA member.
The benefits of belonging to a professional association are the same for virtually any profession--networking, education, leadership potential and programs. However, it's the access to the most recent programs and information that makes belonging to an association vital to one's career. An individual can't possibly stay attuned (sorry for the pun) to every latest industry invention, publisher's book or relevant research without a clearinghouse to organize and present the material. MTNA is that clearinghouse for all music teachers. MTNA stays in step with all the latest happenings in the music world and brings that information to you in many forms and in many ways.
