Dec. 16--Consumers got reprieve from surging gas prices last month, and the pullback in energy costs -- along with pre-holiday bargains at retail stores -- pushed metro area prices down for the first time in five months.
Prices fell 0.6 percent in November for the region with an annual inflation rate of 3.9 percent. It was the biggest one-month drop in more than two decades, according to the Department of Labor's Consumer Price Index.
