UNCF President, Quincy Jones, Andrew Young and More Pledge Support to Aid Students, Faculty and Staff
One out of Five Students from UNCF Schools Affected by Tragedy
FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- New Orleans-based Xavier and Dillard University students, faculty and campuses suffered mightily at the hands of Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 29. Today, Michael L. Lomax, Ph.D., president and CEO of UNCF, pledged his organization's support to helping displaced students continue their education and assist the schools' re-building process, which will cost hundreds of millions of dollars and could take years to complete.
Dr. Lomax and his staff are working hand-in-hand with each school's leadership to find education solutions for every affected student. Both universities are UNCF members and are Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). UNCF-member school Tougaloo College, based in Tougaloo, Miss., also was affected by the hurricane.
