Dec. 16--At long last, the Sagemont girls' basketball team is in the win column. The Lions shed their winless tag, which spanned 45 games and two-plus seasons, with a 21-18 home win against Faith Christian on Thursday. Sagemont first-year coach Mike Lamkin said that as the final buzzer sounded, the Lions -- who went 0-15 in their inaugural season two years ago and 0-20 last season -- celebrated as if they had just won a state title. "They were high-fiving each other and jumping up and down so much and almost forgot to line up and shake hands with the other team," Lamkin said. "They couldn't believe that they had won. I told them they deserved it. They were really waiting for that first win." Chie Hayasak, a 5-7 senior forward who splits time between tennis, did her part with a team-high eight points and a stellar defensive effort against Patriots leading scorer Kristie Bennett, who...
