Winco was his name--presumably in reference to a glorious past in the BAF--his real name long since lost to his pupils and fellow teachers. He'd probably forgotten it himself. Winco would enter the classroom, stride up to the blackboard and laboriously write out a lesson for us and command us to copy it into our schoolbooks while he sat down and buried his nose in Wisden. Neither Winco nor the class had any idea what we were all doing there, but since Winco was asleep in his Wisden...
