Dec. 15--FPL Group, parent of the Florida electric company, may be close to spending $11 billion to acquire another huge energy company that would create a powerhouse stretching from Maine to Florida.
The discussions, reported first in The New York Times on Wednesday, involve Baltimore-based Constellation Energy Group.
Neither firm would comment on the purported deal. "Our long-standing policy is not to comment on market rumor," said FPL spokesman Steve Stengel.
