WASHINGTON -- NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, today responded to The Environmental Working Group's (EWG's) recently released report on issues relating to MTBE limited liability provisions eliminating defective product claims. NPRA President Bob Slaughter said, "NPRA believes that the EWG report misunderstands the nature of proposed limited liability protection. In addition, it misstates the legislative history surrounding adoption of the reformulated gasoline (RFG) program. Finally, EWG is wrong about MTBE detection levels. The MTBE debate is complex, but EWG's work does not make a positive contribution to it."
