BRITISH playwright Harold Pinter was yesterday awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The 75-year-old is recovering from cancer and was unable to attend the glitzy ceremony.

But there was still loud applause for the man who has written hugely popular plays such as The Room, The Birthday Party and The Caretaker.
