A PRIVATE investigator instructed by Irish Ferries to carry out surveillance on an employee was supplied information about his family's criminal record by ringing a Dublin garda station and asking questions without identifying herself, a tribunal has heard.
Ena Murphy, of Insight Investigations, was giving evidence at an unfair dismissal case taken by former Irish Ferries cook Kenneth McKnight, of Tonlagee Road in Raheny.
He was sacked by the ferry company last year for allegedly engaging in a window cleaning business while on sick leave for a back illness.
While giving evidence on the surveillance she carried out at the request of Irish Ferries, Ms Murphy told the Employment Appeals Tribunal she rang Coolock garda station in May last year to enquire about the ownership of a 00D registered car and was told that it belonged to Mr McKnight's wife Joanne.
