According to some psychiatrists, Internet addiction is a psychological disorder. And compulsive away message-checking is just one symptom.
Six to 10 percent of America's 189 million internet users can be classified as having "Internet addiction disorder" or IAD, according to Hilarie Cash, a psychiatrist and CEO of Internet Addiction Services at the University of Pennsylvania at Bradford.
