In terms of New York real estate, Jane Mayle's sweet little shop in Manhattan's Nolita neighborhood might be just a postage stamp. But in terms of presence, it looms pretty large. Here's an example: When Mayle introduced her wedge heel last year-she describes it as "a crazy-looking shoe, sort of a seashell that wraps around the foot"-other boutiques and stores bought only 70 pairs, not exactly a vote of confidence. But at her own shop, Mayle says, "they went off like a bomb," selling out three times, prompting a lengthy wait list, being photographed on Kirsten Dunst over and over.
