Derek Lam fans have not just one spring collection to look forward to but two.
First there's his own line, of course. That one was inspired by the work of two sixties photographers: Sam Haskins, who did photographs of pigtailed, wide-eyed girls (sensual but "with a sense of innocence about them," as Lam puts it), and John Severson, who captured the beach-blanket atmosphere of Hawaiian surfing culture. "It's slightly sporty; it's young, fresh. It has that twist of being naive," Lam says, citing a swinging empire dress in a Polynesian floral and floaty layers of white-sand chiffon.
