At the end of "Peace Mission 2005," an unprecedented week-long Chinese-Russian joint military training exercise, Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan "called for new areas of cooperation between the Chinese and Russian military during talks ... with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov," reported Beijing's Xinhua News Service on September 6.
