The moment the surf's up signal sounds, the excitement crests at Wilson's Waves in Yonkers, N.Y., as kids start running from the parking lot to the pool.
"As soon as they know those waves are coming, they are psyched," says Judith Leblein, operations analyst at Water Technology, based in Beaver Dam, Wis.
Already one of the top attractions at major commercial waterparks, wave pools are fast becoming a staple at municipal pools across the country. And as community facilities find themselves competing with waterparks, and increasingly, waterpark resorts, the expectation for them at municipalities will only continue to grow.
