ITALIAN classification society Rina and the Russian Maritime Register of Ship- ping last week signed a new co-operation agreement that they describe as 'significantly broadening' relations between the two organisations.
'Rina and RS will now co-operate in the survey- ing of both seagoing ships and floating structures as well as offering dual classification at the request of shipowners, and also certification of materials and products outside the marine field,' Rina said in a statement.
A Rina spokesman noted that the two organisations had worked together since July 1979, each inspecting ships on the other's behalf as a way of expanding their respective networks.
This agreement goes a lot farther, however, and in a country the spokesman described as 'an area of potential interest' for Rina's industrial business.
