Having been in the job for a year, it appears that Association of British Insurers' general insurance boss Nick Starling is starting to attract some interesting offers. At a recent insurance dinner, he was telling the person next to him that his eldest daughter was about to go on a gap year visit to the South American country of Ecuador. Imagine Nick's surprise when the person turned round and told him that the company he worked for was one of the leading kidnap and ransom insurance providers in the world. Mr Starling is still unsure whether he was simply being offered advice or whether he was being sold insurance.
